As always, we will have FREE live entertainment by Bridges starting around 7:00 pm. Our $10 dinner will be provided by HHB BBQ. o smoked chickens with cheesy potatoes, steamed green beans, pasta salads and a dinner roll including a soft drink.

Please preorder dinner tickets if you know you are joining us. We will have 225 meals available.

Doors will be open at 2 pm, dinner will start @ 6:00 pm, and Goose Island beers will be sampled starting at 6:30 pm. You can always count on fun drink specials, giveaways and sometimes a puzzler….

Serendipity’s featured art will be from Lois VanLiew’s prismacolor drawings of NOTO.

Katie Wood, a Topeka High art teacher who will have ten pieces on display, and a final piece from the late Scott Long entitled “Fat Tuesday.” This is a preview of his work that will be shown at a later date.

Two Days Monthly Market

TWO DAYS Monthly Market opens at 9 a.m. on Friday the 4th of May and Saturday the 5th with loads of fresh inventory just in time for Spring decorating inside and out!

Two Days also welcomes some special artwork – 93 year old Bernadene Mae Biegert will have her work displayed in the Gallery Room. As always, we will be serving refreshments courtesy of Vision Bank. Please join us as we celebrate May!

Foole’s Dream Studio

New to the family are the fabulous, one-of-a-kind art dolls by Beverly Radefeld. Her work is sure to bring a smile.

Foole’s Dream Studio is featuring the works of Susan Anderson, Teresa Johnston, Becky Drager, Michelle Levian, Joe Williams, Rachel Johnston, Joyce Volmut and Shelly Bedsaul.

Shelly is also exhibiting a collection of digital photos both in Foole’s Dream Studio and at Serendipity. The photos feature the North Topeka business district, now NOTO Arts District, that she took when she first moved here, 9 years ago. The photos will complement the theme of “This Place Matters”. The neighborhood has definitely changed.

Be sure to visit Stacie Dawn Ogle’s upstairs studio and see her fabulous new work. Also, Two Wolves Studio, located upstairs, is welcoming guest artist, Paula Marker.

Kaw River Mercantile

Itroducing and showcasing the work of photographer Vicki Smith at the May First Friday Arts Walk. She will be displaying and selling her work at Kaw River Mercantile’s new Photographer’s Gallery. The “barebones” Photographer’s Gallery showing we held in April was extremely well received so we’ll be working fast and furious to get the Photographer’s Gallery fully operational. So far we have five interesting and diverse photographers committed to displaying in the Gallery. Nothing could be more beautiful than sunlight glowing through the hand painted and water cut glass creations designed by artist Joan Baker. Enjoy!

During the entire month of May, Kansas River Mercantile will be observing National Preservation Month by celebrating the NOTO Arts District and all of North Topeka. This week will be spent drawing, painting, printing, and crafting a variety of projects. We will explore different artists and their techniques along with creating our own works of art. We will do contour drawings with watercolor washes, abstract art, self-portraits, relief prints, and more. 1^st-6^th graders attend the 2 hr class sessions together for the entire week. Learn about gouache, an opaque watercolor paint, which is more controllable than transparent watercolor . Dating back to before the Renaissance, it is a paint used by many designers, illustrators and commercial artists. Usually painted on various papers, it is particularly suited to small paintings. In this class, we will create at least one small painting of an animal. (Instructor will provide reference material).

Students will learn the basics of creating jewelry with sheet metal. We will do a project the first few classes that involves sawing, sanding, filing, soldering, and setting a stone. When that project is complete, students will be able to choose additional projects. Things like rings, earrings, pendants, bracelets, and small sculpture are all options to explore.
